Bishop's Pastoral Letter
On
April 15, Bishop Howe issued a pastoral letter to the Diocese of Central
Florida: "It
seems fitting to pause to reflect on the questions: Who are we… now? What
are the 'core values' of the Diocese of Central Florida? Where are we
going? What is God calling this Diocese to do and to be?"

Easter Sunday at the Cathedral Church
of St. Luke, Orlando, was a joyous occasion, with a stirring sermon
by the Rt. Rev. John W. Howe and spectacular music directed by Canon
Ben Lane.

Camp Wingmann
2008:
What are your kids doing this summer?
Tired of your kids hanging around the house complaining of being
bored? Worried about them scavenging the neighborhood looking for
something to do, by themselves? Don’t have the time to find a
babysitter for that special night out on the town or while you are
away at work? Can’t wait for your kid’s cell phone and iPod
batteries to run out or for the computer and Nintendo to break
permanently so that they might actually get some fresh air and
exercise? Going crazy over that grocery bill because your kids have
invited the entire neighborhood over for dinner? Twice . . . and
have the schematics all ready for a third shindig!
There is absolutely no need to fret over details like this. We have
it all planned out for you and your kids, grandkids, and even the
neighborhood kids. The solution? Send them to Camp Wingmann for a
week (or two) where they will have the opportunity to participate in
numerous activities, including: swimming, kayaking, tubing on the
lake, basketball, archery, kickball, beach volleyball, softball,
frisbee golf, ropes challenge course and arts and crafts. There is
chapel daily, where Morning Prayer and Compline take place
surrounded by fun and meaningful Christian songs, and times of bible
study with age-appropriate lessons created by Fr. Bill and your
Episcopalian clergy and youth leaders.
Camp Wingmann is a fun place for kids, a safe place, a holy place,
and most of all, a kids’ place. Camp Wingmann is a haven where kids
can be themselves, with no worries. Camp Wingmann is a place where
kids can come to have fun while growing in their faith in Christ;
where being a Christian is fun and exciting. Camp Wingmann is a
place for EVERY child.
There are many camps and activities to choose from, but what about
one that will build their faith in God? Please, let us take care of
your kids for a week, even two. Let us worry about planning meals,
activities and keeping them entertained for hours on end. Let us
teach and share God’s love for each and every one of them. Send
your kids to Camp Wingmann this summer because it is WAY better than
just hanging out at the mall!

Messiah, Winter Garden, moves forward!
Sunday,
Feb. 24 was a great Third Sunday in Lent in Winter Garden as Bishop
Howe celebrated Eucharist and consecrated Church of the Messiah’s
new $3.3 million, 8,000-square-foot additions.
The
project includes offices, a parish hall, a library, restrooms, a
kitchen, a covered walkway, a welcome center and a special events
area.
Members
pitched in to keep costs down. Gene Higgs and Wally Stewart
organized sod-laying and landscape-plant parties, and the City of
Winter Garden granted the final Certificate of Occupancy on Tuesday
in Holy Week.
The new
space will also serve the wider community as a gathering place.
Terri Wetherington, Messiah’s “Facilities Minister,” has begun
booking plays, concerts, weddings and summer drama camps to use the
facility as a tool for outreach in the community.
Clergy
at Messiah are the Rev. Tom Rutherford, rector; the Rev. Richard Bordin; the
Rev. Greer McBryde; and Deacon Fred Wilcoxson
The
church operates thriving ministries including a preschool,
children’s and youth groups, a music ministry, Alpha, Crown
Ministry, Walking the Mourner’s Path and Daughters of the King.
