Bishop Gregory Brewer, Diocese of Central Florida, visited St. Peter the Fisherman, New Smyrna Beach, Fla., on Palm Sunday, April 1, 2012. This was Bishop Brewer's first visitation as diocesan bishop. Also -- as bishop -- it represented his first confirmations, first sermon, first blessing of palm fronds, and first encounter with PJ the donkey.

PJ was provided by a parishoner, Veronica Payne, who is a deacon from the Diocese of S.E. Florida.

"The day was electric, the Holy Spirit was alive, the joy was palpable, our confirmands were so excited," said Fr. Jim Spencer, rector. "We had a chance to see the Bishop in action, explaining and modeling his office and at the same time we got to know Greg and Laura Lee personally."

Dear Diocesan Family,

It is finally upon us.  My last round of parish visitations, last staff luncheon, last Board meeting, last meeting of the House of Bishops…and just now, my last newspaper column.

What an unimaginable, wonderful, challenging, sometimes scary, very often surprising, always rewarding, and never dull (!) adventure it has been.  Again: thank you for the privilege, the honor, and the joy you have given in calling me to be your bishop.

“Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.”  (Philippians 1:2)

Friday, January 20, 2012 - 1:59pm

Dear Diocesan Family,

During my first summer in Central Florida I gave a series on homilies at the Cathedral on the Ten Commandments.  It was a kind of “get acquainted” series and it was well-received.

A few weeks ago I had occasion to share the concluding meditation with our staff, and they urged me to share it with all of you, as well.

I had noticed an uncanny correlation, or interaction, between the Ten Commandments and what we call the “Lord’s Prayer.”  (It is, of course, more accurately the “Disciples’ Prayer” – Jesus’ answer when the disciples asked him, “Lord, teach us to pray.”)
