Bobbie Grine remembers the day in the summer of 1959 when her church floated up the river on a barge.

Mrs. Grine has been a Satellite Beach resident for 67 years, “Since before air conditioning,” she said on Sunday, Sept. 23 at Bishop Gregory Brewer’s visit to Church of the Holy Apostles.

The church building is a charming intermingling of the new, the old and the very old.

The original Carpenter Gothic church building was commissioned by Fort Pierce Episcopalians in the late 1890s. Construction was completed around the turn of the century.

Nativity, sponsored by St. Andrew’s, Fort Pierce in 1994, was founded in the western section of Port St. Lucie as that booming city "grew west."

Its services began with an attendance of  20. The congregation has since grown to more than 15 times that number and has built a beautiful house of worship.
