The Order of Daughters of the King, Central Florida Chapter, has scheduled a women’s retreat for March 9.

The retreat is set for 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Canterbury Retreat & Conference Center, 1601 Alafaya Trail, Oviedo, FL 32765

“Celebrating the Women in God's Story” is the theme of the event. Conference leader will be the Ven. Kristi Alday, Archdeacon and Dean of The Institute of Christian Studies.

Worship Leader will be the Rev. Canon Nelson Pinder, DOK Diocesan Chaplain

Kristen (Kristi) Alday holds a BA from Rollins College; an MA from Asbury Theological Seminary; and a Diploma from the Institute for Christian Studies. She was appointed Archdeacon and Dean of The Institute of Christian Studies in 2009.

She is a native of Dalton, Georgia and came to Florida in 1985 to attend Rollins College. While at Rollins, she met and married Tom. They have been married for 27 years.

A Licensed Mental Health Counselor, Kristi has a clinical counseling practice at Grace
Clinic in Winter Park.

Canon Pinder recently celebrated 53 years of ordained ministry, serving his church and his community. He is a determined advocate for increasing diversity, recognizing the persistence of racism and reaching out to minorities and the needy.

Canon Pinder said his purpose in life became evident when he first arrived in Orlando to serve at St. John the Baptist Episcopal Church in Orlando's black community. He was among the civil rights activists in the 1960s who worked with white elected officials to peacefully integrate Orlando and avoid the racial violence that plagued other Florida cities.

At the March retreat, visit the retreat’s Ministries to Children in Haiti exhibit to learn more about the event’s outreach project. Crafts from women of this ministry will be available for purchase from the foundation.

The fee for this one day conference including registration, materials and continental breakfast and lunch is $40. Please contact Canterbury at 407-365-5571 for rates and information regarding overnight arrangements.
