Introduction To Bible Study
This is a basic course for anyone desiring to study the Bible,
or to lead Bible study groups. Topics will include the text and
Canon of Holy Scripture, the meaning of Inspiration, the authority
of Scripture, and the methods of Biblical interpretation. |
The Torah: The Five Books Of Moses
The Torah is the Hebrew term used for the Five Books of Moses
or the Pentateuch. This course proceeds from the assumption that
one must understand the content of the Torah in order to comprehend
the ministry of Jesus Christ. |
Wisdom Literature
The purpose of this course is to gain insight into the spirituality
and social customs of Israel in the Intertestamental period. |
Historical Books Of The Old Testament
A study of the History of Israel from the time of Joshua to the
Babylonian captivity. Discussion will focus on the character
of God as revealed through his relationship with Israel. |
The Early And The Late Prophets
One of Israel's greatest contributions to the development of
faith is the prophetic ministry. This two-part course will examine
the ministry and teachings of selected Old Testament Prophets. |
Isaiah
Isaiah of Jerusalem is perhaps the best known of the prophets
of the Old Testament. His teachings, and those of his tradition,
have had a profound impact upon Christianity. The call and ministry
of Isaiah, his concepts of the Nature of God, God's plan for
history, and teachings regarding the Messianic hope will be studied
in depth. |
Comparing Matthew, Mark And Luke
This course will seek to uncover the basic themes of the Synoptic
Gospels with special emphasis on contemporary Biblical scholarship.
An effort will be made to gain a familiarity with each gospel's
portrait of Jesus, the intent of the Gospel writer, and an in-depth
understanding of the nature of these gospels. |
The Acts Of The Apostles
After the death and Resurrection of Jesus, the Spirit-filled
community of faith grew and spread throughout the Roman Empire.
This course will explore the events, challenges and triumphs
of this inspiring time in the life of the church, as they are
recorded by the author of Acts. |
John, The Apostle And Writer
This course will examine the development, content, and meaning
of the Fourth Gospel. Special emphasis will be placed on the
significance of John's theological interpretation of the words
and actions of Jesus. |
Paul: His Life And Letters
Most of us know of the great apostle, but how much do we really
know about the man and his writings? This two- Saturdays course
looks first at Paul's career and controversies, and then focuses
on the style and content of his epistles. By the end of the course,
participants will be able to distinguish the major themes of
each letter and better understand their messages for us today.
Readings, talks, video and active learning exercises will comprise
the format of the course. |
General Letters To The Early Christians
This course will provide an historical overview of the letters
of James, I and II Peter, Jude, Hebrews, and I, II, III John. |
An Overview Of The Book Of Revelation
This course will provide the student with an opportunity to develop
an understanding of the book as a whole, without becoming lost
in endless speculation concerning the details. We will be introduced
to the major schools of thought and interpretations of this exciting,
controversial and often-neglected book. |
