Clermont, St. Matthias

Status:
Search committee for Rector has been formed and has begun work on a parish profile.

St. Matthias Episcopal Church, Clermont, FL, is located in the midst of the rolling hills and beautiful lakes of Central Florida, only about a half hour drive west of Downtown Orlando. Begun as a mission with initial services attended by 13 persons in 1944, a donation of land in 1946 provided a permanent location to build a sanctuary and sacristy. The mission was granted parish status in 1961. The original structure has been expanded to enlarge the sanctuary and to provide office space and a parish hall. Subsequently, St. Matthias acquired the house next door for meeting space, a historic Pilcher pipe organ, additional property for parking, and a rental house with a garage apartment adjoining the north side of the church property.

The St. Matthias congregation is a diverse, warm, and caring group of people who share generously among themselves and the community. Three services on Sunday morning offer both traditional and contemporary worship options. Evening prayer, dinner, and Bible-based study are offered on Wednesday evening. An active Women’s Bible Study Group meets on Wednesday morning. A nursery and Sunday School classes are available for children and youth of the parish.

Our parishioners look enthusiastically to the future for growth in worship, service, and membership at St. Matthias. A successful Faith Alive Weekend in October 2011 broadened our vision for our parish and God’s work in our community through us. We look forward with anticipation to the call of a Rector who will lead and nurture us to reach new heights in our spiritual lives and service to God.
