R - 3 An Affirmation of the Covenant
Presenter: The Very Reverend Eric W. Turner
Date: December 22, 2009
BE IT RESOLVED: The 41st Convention of the Diocese of Central Florida affirms the final draft (December 2009) of the Anglican Communion Covenant which will both deepen and protect the integrity of our global Anglican Communion and common witness to the apostolic faith.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED: That the Diocese of Central Florida will listen carefully to the continuing discernment of the Communion regarding the adoption, meaning, and role of the Covenant in our common life, and will actively work to pattern our life together as a Diocese on the moral, doctrinal and relational commitments as they have been and continue to be discerned and articulated.
EXPLANATION: On September 17, 2009 both the Diocesan Board and Standing Committee passed a resolution affirming the first three sections of the Ridley Cambridge Covenant Draft of the Anglican Covenant, and commended it to this 41st Annual Diocesan Convention for its consideration. That was the original R-3, the text of which is included below. When the final draft of the Covenant became available, it seemed good to ask this Convention to respond affirmatively to the full Covenant, even though time did not allow the Diocesan Board or Standing Committee to act on the final draft.
Original version of R-3: BE IT RESOLVED: The 41st Convention of the Diocese of Central Florida affirms the continuing development of an Anglican Covenant that will both deepen and protect the integrity of our global Anglican Communion and common witness to the apostolic faith. We affirm Sections One, Two and Three of the Ridley Cambridge Draft of the Anglican Covenant as we await the final draft of Section Four.
