Summer Happenings at Church of the Good Shepherd, Lake WalesMay 26, 2016 • CFE Staff  • DIOCESAN FAMILY

Community Volunteer Work
The parish will host two luncheons for the Lake Wales Care Center Stay-at-Home work camps again this summer. Through these camps, high school and college students volunteer for projects such as roofing, building handicapped ramps, and house painting for area residents in need.

Relationship with Honduras
A mission team from Good Shepherd will travel to the town of Santa Maria, Honduras, for the consecration of Iglesia El Buen Pastor (Church of the Good Shepherd) by Bishop Lloyd Allen of Honduras on June 26. The church was designed by Mark Parlier, an architect and member of Good Shepherd (Lake Wales), and has been completed through a partnership begun in 2006.

The photo, from last year’s visit, shows senior warden Brenda assisting the children in receiving a blessing from the Rev. Tom Seitz, rector of Good Shepherd, Lake Wales, or holy communion from Victor, the local vicar.

Mentoring
Father Seitz will mentor Kevin Bartle in a 10-week summer-internship program through Asbury Seminary under the auspices of Bishop Brewer and diocesan vocations coordinator, the Rev. Dr. Justin Holcombe. Kevin is the son of Ed and Phyllis Bartle, both of whom serve as ordained ministers in our diocese.
