Sneakers for Summer ProjectMay 27, 2016 • CFE Staff  • DIOCESAN FAMILY

Sneaker Tree PicHoly Faith Episcopal Church in Dunnellon, Florida has a Sneaker Tree, which looks like a Christmas tree, erected in its narthex.  The tree is decorated with sneaker tags, each labeled with a boy or girl’s name as well as their age and shoe size. The sneakers will be given to children who attend one of two elementary schools in the area.

Church members take a tag from the tree and purchase a new pair of sneakers, attach the information, and return the shoes to the church. They are then distributed to the schools for summer play.

Holy Faith usually donates about 90 pairs of sneakers to children in grades Pre-K through fifth grade. This annual outreach project is always well-received.
