Oviedo area churches, ministries and retreats will be springing into action this March when they come together to learn how to better serve the community.

Canterbury Retreat & Conference Center executive director, the Rev. Dr. Jon Davis, announced that “Oviedo Gathering” for Unity in our Community will be held Sunday, March 24, on the grounds of Citizens Bank of Florida, 156 Geneva Drive, Oviedo.

The event begins with a one-hour continental breakfast and coffee gathering from 7 to 8 a.m. Participants then will serve the community in unity from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.

A gathering for worship then will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. A barbecue dinner, worship, and music will be offered, along with messages from pastors Brian James and Joseph Okello of First United Methodist Church, pastor Tyler Althof of Action Church, pastor Larry Perkins of Mission Road Church of God, Bishop Jayson Quinones of Core Faith Church, and Davis.

People from all over Oviedo attended last year’s Oviedo Gathering to hear ways about better serving the community.

Bounce houses and organized events for children also will be available. However, childcare will not be provided.

Last year’s event had a slogan of “Unity in our Community for Christ” and was a big success, according to the www.oviedogathering.com website. Pastors from five area churches formed a 15- to- 20-member team and preached a message of being united in the community for Christ.
