On April 16, Laura Lee and Bishop Brewer invited the deacons to their home for their annual deacon luncheon. As usual, the event was wonderful. Bishop Brewer wore his grilling apron, and he and Laura Lee put on a delicious spread.

“I have been an ordained deacon for 30 years and have served under six bishops. Bishop Brewer is the first I have served under who has treated the deacons so well,” Tom Williams said. “To graciously open up their home each year with an appreciation lunch is such a blessing to us. I am very thankful for Laura Lee and Bishop Brewer. They are a lovely couple.”

The bishop assigns each ordained deacon to a parish, and they serve as a direct line to him. By holding this luncheon, Bishop Brewer is helping the deacons build a sense of community with one another and with him. This is his way of showing his gratitude for everything the deacons do. And, according to Williams, the deacons do feel appreciated.

“Bishop Brewer is the real deal, and I am honored to be serving under him,” Tom said. “Thank you for all you do, Bishop Brewer.”
