Ash Wednesday Eucharist, Feb. 18, 2015.

Bishop Gregory Brewer, Episcopal Diocese of Central Florida, at Ash Wednesday Eucharist, Feb. 18, 2015.

How complete must our turning be, when we are called to turn to God? To come to Ash Wednesday, where we are called to repent? That’s not an easy thing, because it raises for me so many unanswerable questions.

What is the word of clarity that prevents us from descending into darkness from which there is no return?

One verse for me today is that word: 2 Corinthians 5:21 “[W]e entreat you on behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God. 21 For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.”

That’s the light I have, backed up by the living Jesus. I can know that no matter incomplete my turning, there is working in me in the midst of that turning, the hand of god turning me, guiding me.
