The Ven. Kristi Alday joins Bishop’s staff

Bishop John W. Howe announced to the Diocesan Board in October, 2009, that he had appointed Deacon Kristi Alday to the position of Archdeacon, and that she also would be Dean of the Institute for Christian Studies.
A graduate of Rollins College with a degree in economics, Archdeacon Alday worked in the private financial sector until becoming Chief Operating Officer of Walking the Mourner’s Path in 2000.
At Walking the Mourner’s Path she spent four years traveling the country training clergy and laity in grief ministry. She was ordained to the Diaconate in 2004 and is pursuing a Master’s Degree in Counseling at Asbury Seminary. Archdeacon Alday has lived in Winter Park and been married to Tom for 27 years.
“I’m so thrilled and delighted to serve this diocese as archdeacon,” she said in accepting the appointment.
Deacons traditionally have “one foot in the Church and one foot in the world.” They often bear witness in secular society by working in charitable, social service or health care fields. The Ven. Linda Brondsted, Archdeacon Alday’s predecessor, served for nearly two decades as a hospital chaplain.
After graduation from Asbury Seminary in May, Archdeacon Alday will maintain a small clinical counseling practice as well as her diocesan duties.
