ST. JAMES ORMOND BEACH RESPONDS
TO CALL FOR ‘NETS FOR LIFE’
In December, 2008, when the call went out for those in the diocese to join in the “Mosquito Net Project”, St. James was already heavily involved with several outreach projects. The Outreach Committee decided to present this project to the congregation when the weather was a bit warmer and our parishioners themselves would be experiencing the summer mosquito invasion. In June the committee set up a display of a mosquito net and information which was kindly provided by Canon Nelson Pinder.
The response from the people of St. James was more than we had hoped for. At the same time 70 Bayou Buddies, ranging in age from four to fourth grade, attended our 2009 Vacation Bible School. They learned the story of children in other parts of the world who needed help to be protected through the night from disease-carrying insects and adopted the “Nets for Life” as their outreach project.
The congregation and VBS raised over $2,600 and donations are still coming in. It is our prayer that in some small way we have made it possible for the children and adults of Africa to be protected from this terrible disease.
