The 13th bishop of the Diocese of South Carolina, the  Rt. Reverend Edward L. Salmon, Jr, was born in Natchez, Miss., in 1934. He received a degrees from the University of the South and Virginia Theological Seminary and was ordained a priest in the Diocese of Arkansas in 1961.

Bishop Salmon served in Arkansas and Missouri congregations until he was elected Bishop of the Diocese of South Carolina in 1989. Over the years, Bishop Salmon has served as President of Province IV Bishops; President of the Board, Kanuga Conferences, Hendersonville, NC; Trusteee of the University of the South and a member of the Board of Regents; Board member of Voorhees College, Denmark, SC; board member of York Place, Rock Hill, SC; and as Vice-President of Nashotah House Seminary, Nashotah, WI.
