Kairos Prison Ministry teams forming

Paul Boehm, a member of St. Gabriel’s Episcopal Church, Titusville, is calling for volunteers to work on Kairos teams, visiting inmates at Central Florida prisons.
“I will be the leader for Kairos #63 at Tomoka October 23-26 and my friend Carla Rhodes, also of St. Gabriel’s, will be the leader of the ladies Kairos #10 at Lowell November 4-7,” Mr. Boehm said.
Tomoka Correctional Institution is near Daytona Beach and Lowell Correctional Institution is in Ocala.
“This is an ecumenical team effort to take Jesus into prisons to the men and women in blue,” Mr. Boehm said. “You may already know this – Kairos started as Cursillo.” Winter Park-based Kairos is open to all practicing Christians, including those who have not yet done a Cursillo, Walk to Emmaus or other “short course” in Christianity.
Mr. Boehm has sent the following to prospective team members: God is at work inside the darkness of the prison! And now, He is assembling a team of servants for the Kairos #63 at Tomoka Correctional Institute that will run from Thursday, October 23 through Sunday, October 26, 2008. There will be team meetings on upcoming Mondays and one Saturday at Grace Episcopal Church, Port Orange.

I am serving as the team leader and am working diligently to recruit persons with a servant heart. I am so hopeful that you can clear your schedule for this important journey and will let me know of your interest in serving.
These team sessions will prepare you for this experience – both spiritually and in terms of your role in the team formation. These team sessions build Christian brotherhood, team camaraderie and fellowship.
Team members who go inside the prison for the Kairos weekend are expected to come back one Saturday each month for one year. This is a time of being a disciple of Jesus being a mentor and friend to the men in blue.
On the second Saturday following the Kairos weekend, the Team returns to instruct the residents in the Prayer & Share (Reunion) group.
The Instructional Reunion will be Saturday, Nov. 22.
